Integrating opposing energies in your natal birth chart
In your birth chart you will have at least three sets of opposing energies, your ascendant (rising sign) is opposite your descendant outlining the dynamic balance of ‘self’ and ’other’. Your MC (career, purpose, social image) is always opposite your IC (family, home and roots) exploring the home vs world polarities….AND let’s not forget the nodal axis (north and south node) aswell! The energy of where we have come from and where we are leaping to in this life time while still integrating and balancing the south node.
An axis polarity represents two signs (i.e. cancer + capricorn) often striving toward a similar goal, but through different approaches. To find balance and feel whole within, you will be learning to embrace and integrate both energies, allowing them to co-exist. Neither sign can fully express itself without the other; almost giving this feeling of ‘two halves to a whole’ — a meet me half way vibe. Each archetype holds valuable lessons and wisdom for the other. While they may seem different, you are learning to find balance in both. Just as the Sun gives you life, joy and vitality, the Moon nourishes and nurtures you — you need both to survive — your water and food. As such and when played out well, each archetype can balance, beautifully complement and support one another.
A R I E S + L I B R A / the axis of relationships (me vs. us)
Aries is learning to put itself first, it has an ‘I AM’ energy, whereas Libra wants to collaborate, bring balance and harmony and craves connection — ‘WE ARE’. Both exploring relationships but on completely different scales. With an Aries/Libra Axis you will be learning to both assert yourself, lean into independence but also cultivate harmony and fairness in relationships with others. With both signs being cardinal there is a need to take action to move forward — whether this be in a collaborative manner or via chasing personal ambition. The learning comes from honoring your individuality and being able to connect in meaningful relationships. Be careful to not fall trap in the shadows of both i.e. being all about the self/impulsive or getting caught into people pleasing traps. The axis is learning to lean into the balance of self and the other.
T A U R U S + S C O R P I O / the axis of resources (mine vs. ours)
Taurus craves it’s own sense of security, striving for a sense of value, comfort, peace and worthiness, whereas Scorpio wants to blend and understand what it means to merge with another. Scorpio craves deep transformation and the need to confront the shadow. Taurus wants to hold on, Scorpio is comfortable with letting go. You will be learning to both celebrate the security that has been built from self (Taurus) as well as learning to go deep on an emotional level — your ability to transform (Scorpio). You are learning to experience deep transformation outside of yourself with another being. Your power vs. combined power. This axis is teaching you value. The value of both the tangible/physical and the value of intangible — deep emotional connections. With both you’ll be learning that focus, determination is vital in embodying these qualities in a positive way
G E M I N I + S A G I T T A R I U S / the axis of knowledge (facts vs. ideals)
Gemini is the social butterfly, soaking up all the facts and learnings it can wrap it’s curious mind around. It asks questions. Sagittarius takes these learnings and expands beyond consciousness, travelling to grow and reach higher potential -through seeking — all about the bigger picture. You are learning to be both the student and the teacher. How can you embody both these energies? What can you learn to then teach? Are you too optimisic that you lose a sense of logic? Do you get too caught up in the little details not allowing you to grow and expand? Here you are learning to embrace both parts of knowledge. A need to learn, experience, play to then be able to expand the minds of yours and of others. This axis feels like a deep journey of understanding. You are learning to be both curious and find your own meaning of ‘life’
C A N C E R + C A P R I C O R N / the axis of foundations (home vs. world)
Cancer sets the foundations for home, a need for a safe space/security. Capricorn lays the foundations to set up a life of soul purpose and it’s own version of success. Here you are learning to look after your emotional needs so you can go after your ambitions. When you work too hard, Cancer asks you to come back home to your foundational self, your intuition asking you soften but be strong. When you are deep in the safety of home, Capricorn wants you to set deep structures and strong boundaries to climb the mountain to your potential and calling. There is a learning here to both protect your space and nurture and support your inner-world but also be an individual that beckons to leave behind a legacy that feels soulful — the outer world. Both crave a sense of strong foundations/security. You are balancing these polarities to create a life that can be both emotionally fulfilling and your own version of success.
L E O + A Q U A R I U S / the axis of individuality
Leo is proud, creative and self-assured. It loves to express itself authentically with a craving for recognition. Aquarius needs to feel it can go out as it’s unique self, thinking up big ideas and creating impact and change for the collective. Aquarius needs change. Both energies have a need to exert individuality but in differing ways. Leo calls to celebrate self, Aquarius wants to join minds in the collective and celebrate groups. Both will be important for you. It’s the merging of fun and joy with a need for collective progress. You are learning to embrace your unique individuality through connection with humanity. There is this souls need to shine and remember you are important and to bring these gifts to connect with something greater than ‘self’. Step away from ego but still celebrate your individuality.
V I R G O + P I S C E S / the axis of healing / service
Virgo is a healer in a tangible hands on way, Pisces heals through the soul and heart. Virgo needs a sense of methodical alignment / skill whereas Pisces doesn’t need the structure, Pisces wants to flow. You are learning to blend a skillset and an act of service in a way that flows organically into the world. The balance is creating some structure and routine but also tapping into your intuitive gifts to trust the process when the path isn’t clear. It’s not one or the other, you need to embody both. Both example healing energy with the need to be grounded in reality but also in touch with the mysteries of life — perhaps knowing the answers to some questions but allowing yourself to fully trust and surrender. You are learning to blend spirituality and practicality, find balance in service and embrace and allow imperfection. Life can be both ordered and inspiring
What polarities do you have in your natal birth chart, do you relate to these? I would love to hear!
